Every verse is a rung, the trophy is at the top. Recite and climb to the end of the surah
The surah is a ladder from bottom to top, one verse per rung. The child recites the verse from memory out loud, then reveals it and checks, alone or with the teacher.
So we can keep the child's stars from every climb.

Reciting a whole surah feels long to a child. In the Memorization Ladder every verse becomes a rung they can see bringing the trophy closer, so they keep going to the end of the surah.
No picking from options: the child recites the verse out loud, then reveals it and the teacher or child judges honestly. Hints come in steps: the number, then the first word, then the first letters.
Whoever stumbles slips a rung and recites the verse before it, rebuilding the link between the two verses, which is where children really stumble. Two stumbles on a verse and the child reads it first, then recites it.
A rest every 5 rungs that the child never falls below, and at the top a gold, silver or bronze trophy, with a list of the verses that need review.
Pick a surah the child knows and climb together to the trophy, then go for gold next time, and carry on with the rest of the memorization games.
