Noon Sakinah and Tanween

Find Noon Sakinah or Tanween, notice the next letter, explore the ayah and then practise.

Discover the rule inside the ayah

نْ

Noon Sakinah

An original noon without a short vowel. It can occur inside or at the end of a word, as in أَنْعَمْتَ.

ـً ـٌ ـٍ

Tanween

An additional noon sound heard when connecting the end of a noun to the next word, but not written as a noon. Its signs are ـً ـٌ ـٍ.

  1. Find Noon Sakinah or Tanween.
  2. Notice the following letter.
  3. Choose the rule and recite with your teacher.

These examples use connected recitation in Hafs from Asim. When stopping, the rule for connecting to the next letter does not apply.

A final review of all four rules: recognition, reasoning, finding the spot, listening, and reciting with a teacher.

For pre-readers, recite the example aloud and choose untimed practice. Pronunciation should be learned by listening to and reciting with a teacher.
